Live one of the most impressive volcano adventures in Central America with our flagship Acatenango & Fuego Volcano Camping Expedition.
This 2-day hiking experience takes you to the summit of Volcán Acatenango, one of Guatemala’s most iconic volcanoes, with privileged views of the constantly erupting Volcán de Fuego.
On the first day, we hike up to our comfortable basecamp, strategically located directly facing Volcán de Fuego. From here you can witness spectacular eruptions lighting up the night sky.
In the evening, participants can join an optional extra hike to Volcán de Fuego ridge, where you can observe the eruptions from a closer and more dramatic perspective. Lava explosions, glowing ash clouds, and the sound of the volcano create an unforgettable natural spectacle.
On the second day, we wake early to continue hiking to the summit of Acatenango, where we witness one of the most magical moments of the trip: sunrise above a sea of clouds, with panoramic views of Guatemala’s volcanic chain and the surrounding highlands.

This is considered a moderately challenging to difficult hike, with 5–6 hours of uphill trekking on day one. You should be in good physical condition, but no technical climbing experience is required.
Basecamp is located at approximately 3,500 meters (11,500 feet) above sea level. Some guests may experience mild altitude symptoms, which usually pass with rest and hydration.
No, the summit hike is optional. Many travelers choose to stay at Basecamp to enjoy the view of Fuego’s eruptions. Those who attempt the summit start around 4:00 AM.
Yes — if weather and volcanic activity permit, you’ll see the eruptions of Volcán de Fuego clearly from Basecamp, especially at night. It’s one of the most unique experiences in Central America.
Some gear may be available to rent in Antigua (jackets, walking sticks, gloves). It’s recommended to confirm this with your tour provider in advance.
Yes. You’ll be provided lunch and dinner on day one, and breakfast on day two, all light but hearty meals to fuel your hike.
The hike operates in most weather conditions. However, extreme weather may delay or cancel certain parts of the itinerary for safety reasons.
